Care Leavers Bursary
Care leavers who have a learning start date on or after 1 August 2023 are eligible to receive £3,000. The bursary will be paid in three instalments, £1000 per instalment. The payments will be made at 60 days in learning, 120 days in learning and 300 days in learning.
First payment
The first payment can be viewed on the Apps monthly payment report found in submit learner data and period end reports. Subsequent payments are paid manually and can only be found on your remittance once they have been paid. They are detailed on your remittance as “2nd care leavers bursary for ULNXXXXXXX” or “3rd care leavers bursary for ULNXXXXXXX”
Generating payments
To generate payments for the care leaver bursary, EEF4 must be added to the learners ILR within 60 days of their start date and the learner must not have claimed the bursary before to be eligible for the funding. Learner restarts will be eligible to the care leaver bursary on their original start date only.
If the learner confirms they are a carer after the 60 day threshold they need to seek approval from the DfE to claim this funding via the Earnings Adjustment Statement (EAS).
