DfE Sign-In: How to check a user's account
DfE Sign-in gives access to lots of different DfE services, so users can have different roles across different organisations. This means that it’s useful to check yours or a user’s service roles and organisations when having problems.
How do I check a user's account?
1. Log in
- Go to DfE Sign-In and log in with your credentials.
- Click on 'User Management' from the main menu.
2. Search for the user
- Use their email address to search.
- Avoid searching by name - many users share names, which can lead to inaccurate results.
3. Select the user
- Click on the user's name in the search results to open their profile.
4. Check organisation links
- Review which organisations/UKPRNs the account is linked to.
- Users can have one account linked to multiple schools, trusts, or LAs.
5. Check user roles
- See if the user is an End User or an Approver.
- A user may be an Approver for some organisations and an End User for others.
- Also check if their account is active or deactivated.
6. Review permissions for services and roles
- Look at the permissions assigned to the user.
- Ensure the permission is listed under the correct organisation.
- For example, to view attendance data for High School Academy, the user needs the 'Monitor Your School Attendance - School' permission under High School Academy.
7. If account is deactivated
- Click 'View User Sign-In Audit' to check the reason for deactivation
