The age is determined as in the funding rules:
P110 You and the employer will receive a payment towards the additional cost associated with training if, at the start of the apprenticeship, the apprentice is:
P110.1 Aged between 16 and 18 years old (or 15 years of age if the apprentice’s 16th birthday is between the last Friday of June and 31 August); or
P110.2 Aged between 19 and 24 years old and has either an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan provided by their local authority or has been in the care of their local authority as defined in paragraph P112.
The Technical funding guide confirms the same for those who change Provider:
- If the apprentice moves between providers on the same apprenticeship, we will use the date they originally started the apprenticeship with the first provider to determine their age.

16-18 Employer incentive (apprenticeships) - date when applies?
Created
The guidance simply says that if the apprentice is aged 16-18 then the incentive is paid. I take this to mean their age on the date of the start of the apprenticeship, but I have a vague memory of someone saying that it is age at 1 September of the year. Does anyone know for sure?
