Maximum time between employers?

Created

We have an apprentice who has handed in their notice but does not have another job lined up.  However, they would like to complete their apprenticeship if possible.  We are hoping to get sufficient evidences in place that we can get them through Gateway before they cease to qualify as an apprentice.  I am aware that if a they start with a new employer within 30 days it is not a withdraw/restart, but how long can the period be between employers?

And are there any limitations on the length of time in EPA? (this Standard EPA is a specimen synoptic project and synoptic interview, it is not a project based around their actual work environment with specified timescales for completion). I assume that this is a question for the EPAO too, not just a funding query

TIA

The 30 days is not a grace period but if they change employer within 30 days it need not be a withdrawal.

P77.2.1 During the programme, if an apprentice becomes unemployed, self-employed as a sole trader, or becomes a shareholder / director with no separate identifiable person to undertake the role of employer, they will at that point no longer be eligible for funding and you must report them as having withdrawn from the apprenticeship on the ILR. If the apprentice has been made redundant, see paragraph P70 .

Thanks Martin.  My main query is if a learner is withdrawn close to or at Gateway but then is in a position to complete their apprenticeship in, say, 6 months' time, would they be classed as a new start so have to meet the minimum duration/OTJ rules?

No, it would be a restart and only the balance of funding would be available.

That's great to know, thank you.
