GCSE resit question

Hi
Just a quick question, which I hope you can help with?
We have a 16 year old who is currently working for an IT employer in Hastings but he is resitting his GCSE Maths next June. They give him half a day a week to go to college for lessons but takes his exam in a few weeks time.
The employer wants to get him started on an ICT apprenticeship this week and I wanted to double check if this causes any funding issues? Can we start him on the apprenticeship this week or do we have to wait until he has taken his exams?
The ESFA help desk hasnt quite understood what I am asking.
We understand that the GCSE result is not a pre requisite for his apprenticeship, but it is a course that is DfE funded. What we are trying to understand is, can he begin an apprenticeship whilst he is still enrolled on a GSCE course at College as teh apprenticeship is DfE funded too.
Basically, I and the employer is needing to know, can my student who is still enrolled at Hastings College to resit his GCSE's with a final exam date of 14th June and is full time employed with his current employer, can he start an apprenticeship on Monday 22nd May without and funding violation?
