Light Touch Screening for Learning Needs

Created

Looking for a little bit of clarification on the additional learning support section of initial assessment.

Paragraph 29. As part of the initial assessment (which is an eligible cost), the provider must undertake a screening exercise for learning support.

As this makes up part of the initial assessment I understand that the tools and materials are not prescribed.

16: We do not specify which assessment tools must be used; this is for the provider to determine.

As part of our screening process we include a very brief assessment for dyslexia and dyscalculia (Through a functional skills platform) and a question in the initial learner interview relating to additional learning needs.

Would this still be sufficient in the new funding rules or would we need to look elsewhere to source a more thorough screening assessment for additional needs?

If anything, I think they want us to use less/fewer of these online tests as they are very wary of them...

I think one could arguably say that asking a learner to declare any issues is sufficient...
