L3 Apprenticeship Eng and Mat.

Created

None

I have a current L2 apprentices who is due to sit hie EPA in the summer break.  We and his employer are confident he will pass.  he is a more mature apprentice and has struggled with his FS Eng and Mat, to the point we believe this will be a barrier to achievement at L3 Apprenticeship.  He does not have an EHCP as he is too old and also does not have an SEN statement.  The candidate in question has the technical ability to achieve L3 Apprenticeship in Advanced Carpentry and Joinery, but struggles with the Eng and Maths.  Is there anyway around this as we feel he is being disadvantaged.  We have spent lots of 1-2-1 time with him and he works very hard but he just cannot remember the Eng and Maths skills to be able to pass.  Your help is appreciated!

Hi Frances,

The funding rules only mention exemptions for learners with special educational needs, learning difficulties or disabilities, satisfying 3 rulings. It normally comes under this header in funding rules: Exceptions to the regular English and maths minimum requirements, for
people with special educational needs, learning difficulties or disabilities

You may wish to raise this with the ESFA query desk to see if there is anything that can be done but I know unless their is a special educational needs, learning difficulties or disabilities there is normally no give.

Many Thanks

Sarah
