ASN Screening

Created

None

Good afternoon, all,

I hope you're well.

Following a conference yesterday, we were reminded that as of the 1st of August, all learners need to be screened for ASN. My question today is; exactly what defines this 'screening' process, and what will be deemed acceptable, or not. At present, our learners are asked screening questions during the application stage re-ASN, LDD, etc. Any learner that indicates there is a need or require additional support is then contacted by relevant internal support teams for a more detailed assessment.

What is everybody else doing re-screening to establish further assessment being needed? Will this process suffice under the new rules, or does a more diagnostic approach need to be adopted with all applicants?

Kind regards,

Ben Carter

Hi Ben,

We asked this question to our ESFA account manager, here was his reply:

'Neither the funding rules nor the above guidance prescribe a specific assessment tool – this is so the assessment can be tailored to the needs of the individual and their circumstances.  For certain conditions/needs (eg dyslexia) there may be some off the shelf solutions which may help with the assessment process but we do not specify/prescribe what they should be'

And then he went on to send this link for more guidance:

So as usual, its all open for interpretation!  We are doing some work this end and putting a plan together to look at the covering all bases going forward (as we interpret it)

Hope this helps :)
