Gateway is more of a point in time rather than a period. It's when the learner has met all of the requirements of the standard before progressing to EPA.
Defined in legislation as the final day of the practical period. This is the equivalent of the learning end date on the ILR (there must be evidence of learning on this learning end date) and internally if also referred to as the “Gateway” between the practical period and the end-point assessment.
Each EPA plan has different criteria for what constitutes the learner reaching 'Gateway', and how long each EPA period should typically take. You should take the individual EPA plan into account when setting planned end dates for the overall apprenticeship.

Hi All
We have always calculated the apprenticeship end date by adding 12 weeks to the practical end date.
Can anyone tell me where the 12 weeks comes from and whether this date should be specific to the EPAO - for example lead time for one EPAO is 6 months so instead of adding 12 weeks we should be adding 24 weeks to the practical end date.
I have spent the last hours or so looking for something that will point me in the right direction, I realise it is not an ILR field but it is something we need to put on paperwork.
Just cant help thinking that I have missed something
Thank you in advance
Gina
