I mean, I'd slightly worry that there's a small risk that there might be something weird that means he can't get one, but, if anything, that's on the App/Employer side as part of Right to Work checks? Assuming there's no real concerns there, then I'd probably start them now as you suggest. Not 100% best practice, but we have to be pragmatic sometimes.
Thanks Steve - I'm trying to find out why he doesn't have one (as I agree, this could be part of a bigger issue). I'm inclined to allow the start but with the understanding that the NI number must be provided within a specified timescale, else the Apprenticeship will be deemed ineligible.
Thank You

Apprentice Starting Without a NI Number
Created
Hello
We have an Apprentice wanting to start his Apprenticeship on 19/09/2023. However he only just applied for his National Insurance number and this can take up to (at least?) 4 weeks.
Are we able to start him whilst waiting for the NI number to come through? I know that the record will error in the ILR and so we will not receive funding until it is entered, but do we need to delay his start date until he has the NI number?
Thanks
