Hi Steveh,
That makes 2 of us. This goes alongside a previous post of mine with regards to needing a signer for a deaf learner.
We have the costs for this now off the signer which is a day rate, which will need to go through EAS. Our assessors are spending more time with this learner to ensure his understanding, so I suppose this is where ALS would come in?
So in short, claim ALS for the support our assessors give to him and EAS for the signer.
Is this wrong?
Ahaaaaaaa, I see where you are now.
So, first, you need to work out the monthly cost of ALL OF THE EXTRA SUPPORT, whether signer or assessors. Then flag the learner's aim as requiring ALS. this will draw down £150 a month "automatically". Then you submit an EAS for "total cost minus £150" for each month. So, if, say, the total tutor support for a month is £200 and the signers are £750, that's £950 in total, so your EAS claim for the month would be £800. Or, if the tutor cost is £100 and the signers are £750, then it's £700.
The only thing to be slightly wary about in this circumstance is, if the total cost for the academic year is going to be over £19,000 (which is not impossible if there's multiple signers needed!), then you need to get approval for Exceptional Learning Support before you hit that much. The form and process is here:

Hi All,
Can you claim ALS alongside EAS please?
Thanks
