Apprentice - maths and English work only, in one calendar month

Can an apprentice spend a calendar month working solely on their maths and English, and not have to go on a Break in Learning? Our Apprentice has damaged his wrist, so is happy to do lighter duties at work plus maths / English. I know this would not count towards his Off The Job Hours but would the maths and English participation negate the need for a Break in Learning?

English and Maths is one of the examples of Active learning so should be okay.
Would he be attending remote lessons during that time?
