Apprenticeship Learning Support Claim - Initial Assessment

Created

Hello,

I'm wondering whether anyone has any experience in claiming £150 additional learning support funding for apprentices, specifically whether initial assessments would be an eligible claim. The funding regs claim:

Assessment for learning support funding 33. As part of the initial assessment (which is an eligible cost), the provider must undertake a screening exercise for learning support.

To me, the above indicates that completing an initial assessment for apprentices who have declared a learning difference or disability would be something we could claim learning support funding for. Any support/advice welcome!

My  reading of the rules would be that the initial assessment (screening as part of the general assessment of suitability) is an eligible cost (that would be reflected in the TNP1 training price and wouldn't be seperately shown).

The next step, detailed assessment of support needs for the apprenticeship, isn't funded (33.1.1).

Costed support which is then provided would trigger the additional LSF payment.

Thanks Martin, much appreciated, that makes sense. The regs state that the reasonable adjustments agreed must be signed with the apprentice, but is this the same for the initial assessment to determine need? We would screen apprentices who declare a support need to establish what that need is and document, then complete a reasonable adjustment plan with them. Currently we're getting the apprentice to sign the document that outlines their initial need and declaration, and then also getting them to sign the reasonable adjustment plan. Am I right in thinking that only at the reasonable adjustment plan stage is a signature needed?
