International Qualification in English

Created

We have a potential apprentice who has the Cambridge Assessment International Education – Level1/Level2 Certificate in First Language English (ref No 50057820) with an achieved grade of “C”
An online search has shown "UK NARIC, the national agency in the UK for the recognition and comparison of international qualifications and skills, carried out an independent benchmarking study of Cambridge IGCSE and found it to be comparable to the standard of UK GCSE. This means students can be confident that their Cambridge IGCSE qualifications are accepted as equivalent to UK GCSEs by leading universities worldwide."
The ESFA’s guide to international qualifications makes reference to UK ENIC but I can’t access this system to see if this qualification is shown.
Is this learner’s qualification equivalent to a GCSE Grade C and therefore they do not need to do Level 2 functional skills in English or will they still have to do it as it is not recognised?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Darren,

I know you will have read the guidelines, but a statement of comparability is required from UK ENIC to be used to confirm.  They potential applicant must pay for this themselves as it will be very useful to them in the future.  Whilst we all can usually work out the answer, its only when it is confirmed by ENIC that it can be used for audit purposes.
