Chris Cooper did you ever resolve this?
We recently asked the helpdesk if we could ask for apprentices to pay for an enhanced DBS in the same way they can for travel and subsistence and were told that the employer had to pay as it was a normal cost of employment.
This doesn't obviously help with the placement problem so wondered whether you came up with a solution.
Thanks

Apprentices requiring DBS checks
Edited
Hi All,
On some of our healthcare programmes the apprentices are required to hold enhanced DBS checks where they go onto placements in Child and Vulnerable Adult settings. We have always asked and ensured that employers are organising these on behalf of their apprentices. However, we have been challenged by an employer who does not want to contribute to this and would prefer that this is funded by the apprentice themselves.
The standards that they are on require a wide range of placements, so without the placements they cannot complete the programme, and therefore the DBS is a requirement to be able to complete the programme. As such can the apprentice pay for this?
In addition is this technically an eligible cost and the provider fund it using levy payments?
Thanks
