Carpentry and Joinery Apprentice

Hi I wonder if you can advise me. I have an apprentice who has been on a Carpentry and Joinery L2 Apprenticeship standard for a year, on the Site Carpentry pathway. He now wants to transfer to a company that does Architectural Joinery. Technically, this would be the same standard but with a different pathway, meaning he would have only a year of Architectural Joinery training to complete. Can I extend the the PED? Should I make him a leaver and the start again with RPL for some of the skills?
