Core Aim when Original Core Aim has been achieved mid-year

Created

Hi Everyone,

I am in two minds on which way is the correct way in this scenario.

Learner was on a Qual in September and this was the Core Aim. Learner had 4 other non-reg learning aims (not Core - code 4's),

Learner has now completed and achieved the Qual (Core Aim) already and it is closed.

Does this remain as the core aim for the rest of the year and the other non reg aims left as not core?

or

Do I change the Qual to (4) Learning Aim not part of a Programme and choose the most substantial Non Reg Aim to be the new core aim ?

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks Ems

Just had a quick look and I'm *fairly* sure there aren't any validation rules about Core Aims needing to go the full length of the programme so am fairly confident you can just leave it? Particularly as it's a qual and the rest aren't, it feels most likely that it should be the core.

Thanks Steve!

That was my rationale too but in the World of the ESFA rules I always like a second opinion lol.

We keep ours set to what the plan of learning at enrolment was. Its a potential funding issue if it doesn't match up on an audit according to the working papers.

The aim of this test is not for auditors to determine what is or is not a core aim.  It is a data check where auditors must ensure that the core aim of the study programme as agreed on the learning plan or learning agreement has been recorded accurately in the ILR.
However, note that when a student has work experience as the core aim of their study programme, it must be an external placement.  Should the work experience consist predominantly of internal work placement(s), it must not be the core aim.
Please note that the core aim is used:
a. to calculate future programme cost weighting;
b. to determine whether a student is retained on the programme or not, for future funding retention factors; and
c. whether the programme consists of substantial qualification, work experience or other.
IMPORTANT NOTE:  Please do not use the terminology "academic" or "vocational" qualification but use "substantial qualification, work experience or other".

Yeah, was just searching through the various bits of Core Aim guidance (for some confirmation on what to use for an SI) and basically, you only need to change/add another if the learner *withdraws* (or transfers) from the initial one.
