BIL - Return to a different apprenticeship

Edited

None
Good afternoon all,

We currently have an apprentice who started the apprenticeship in September 2024 and is looking at going on a BIL, which may return to a new standard (which will be integrated), do we have to provide the option of returning to the original standard (even though we wont have a cohort for them to return to?)? Or can we explain that, as the standard is changing, that we will bring them back on the new standard?

They are currently on a CMDA Level 6 apprenticeship which is being revised currently.

Would this be a BIL or a withdrawal in this instance?
Thanks all

HI,

This is a tricky one, I will suggest returning them to the original standard as that is what they have signed up to at the beginning. Changing standards will mean you need to gather new agreements , training plan etc.. However, you do have the option to return them on the new standard taking that standard number remains the same by ensuring the following :

Apprentices already engaged on the earlier version of a standard may
transfer to the latest version of the same standard (that is where the ST
number remains the same) at any stage within their apprenticeship subject
to meeting the rules on end-point assessment. Where an apprentice is
already engaged on a standard which has been replaced with a new
apprenticeship standard (that is with a new ST code), this would be treated
as a change of programme.

The provider must make the apprentice and employer aware of the
differences between the version of the apprenticeship the apprentice is
registered on, in comparison to the one they are transferring to, in terms of
the demands of the standards and the requirements of the end-point
assessment plan.

The main provider and employer must update both the apprenticeship
agreement and the training plan to reflect this agreement.

Where an apprentice changes version, the provider must make sure that the
training and assessment they receive across the whole apprenticeship delivers
occupational competence in all aspects of the new standard version and
enables them to pass the end-point assessment.

I hope this helps.
