Settlement Visa except of 3years required residency?

Hi, 

I have a learner who's been living in the UK for 1.5 year but has settlement visa. Does that exempt her from 3 year residency requirement?

Based on evidence I have seen previously a residency permit with the words settlement have equated to the same as indefinite leave to remain.

However,  I thought you had to be resident for 5 years to be anwarded indefinite leave but I could be wrong.

Hi Kelly, 

Thank you for responding. I thought the same that one has to live in the country for at least 5 years to get Indefinite leave to remain. I am equally confused.
