SPLIT days on apprenticeship vs BIL
Created

Good morning all
We have a query with regards to an apprentice , after speaking to her it sounds like she will be off work on Parental Leave from Mid-April until January 2026 so we had previously discussed reapplying for a future cohort.
She has now discussed with her employer that she’ll be using at least one SPLIT Day a month and so would like to still engage with the Programme.
Whilst the funding rules does state that SPLIT days can be used, rather than a BIL, it also states that the intention of this policy is to allow an apprentice with minimal training days left to complete their apprenticeship during leave, and not to support sporadic activity during a long period of leave.
9 months feels like this would be too much to use SPLIT days towards: OTJ could only be recorded for the scheduled SPLIT days, all other training would be technically during a period when the apprentice isn’t working and can’t be recorded.
Given we are within the 42 days, we could non-start and return to the July cohort, which would mean only 5-6 months SPLIT days would be needed. Given the uncertainty around the L7 funding announcement and that July may be the only viable option, this may mean we can be flexible around the use of SPLIT days.
Can anyone confirm what the best option would be to do here?
