Full Cost - Enrolment process short courses

Hi all,

Our provider delivers a variety of different commercial courses (FM99 fee paying) a mixture of regulated/non-regulated all are delivered in 6-24 hours (1 to 4 days)

We currently have these learners complete our normal "part time" enrolment process for funded learners which includes details such as National Insurance Number, Prior Attainment, Employment Information.

Overall the question raised to us is can we make the enrolment process simpler for these short courses & goes down the route of what is the minimum information we need to get these FM99 learners through our ILR. There will be mandatory fields to not leave NULL such as  ethnicity, prior attainment, employment information, learning difficulty/disability that do have "Not Known" options which we very rarely use for any provision.

I would like to know how other providers tackle this type of provision. Could we make this enrolment process simpler to make the experience quicker/simpler for the student/employer? What's the impact of going down this route and returning "generic" not-known information on fields we aren't capturing for FM99 (non loan)? & also for things like home address/date of birth where learners don't like to tell us for this type of course, do we have any flexibility to keep them exclude from the ILR? Since I know we have turned away some learners in the past not completing the mandatory parts of our enrolment process.

Hi Ryan

So, grant-funded providers (colleges, local authorities etc) are mandated by their funding agreement to return the data of anyone who walks through the door, regardless of the funding status of the individual. Independent Training Providers, on the other hand, do not have this requirement.

Having said that, I know it's been discussed about removing this requirement and I also know it's next to impossible for anyone to check colleges are actually doing it (!!!).

Either way, FM 99 aims require very little information, you can "not known" almost everything (except Sex where it will have a fit if you don't put M or F). Would probably still want a postcode personally, but you don't need NINO/Prior Att/Employment to get it through. Per the ILR spec, FM 99 not on a Loan don't even need DoB (although, again, I think I'd want to collect it for Safeguarding if nothing else...)
