Enter Learning Data

Enter learning data (ELD) is replacing the Learner entry tool (LET) for creating individualised learner record (ILR) files. Apprenticeship-only providers and those providers delivering Care to Learn funded courses will be first to use the new service and manage their learning data.

Some providers have already been successfully using it with their real data to generate ILR files for submission. Several design changes have been made based on their feedback to further improve the user experience.

Providers have found creating their ILRs to be much easier and quicker with ELD.

Comments received include:

“I find it very user-friendly and straightforward.”

“It saved me a vast amount of time.”

“Now I know exactly where I need to go if there’s an issue.”

“The system is easier to navigate.”

“I love the fact that it’s web-based."

ELD has been designed to offer a greatly improved user experience with benefits including:

  • reduced data duplication when entering learners
  • real time validation to improve data quality
  • guided user journeys
  • improved self-service with links to guidance
  • web-based service which allows multiple users for the same organisation
  • storage of data in the DfE environment
  • links to other DfE services

ELD will be available from 11 August for all Apprenticeship-only providers (and Care to Learn providers - Funding Model 82), ready for the start of the 2025 to 2026 academic year. Additional funding models will be added over the coming year so that more providers can make the switch from LET to ELD.

Apprenticeship-only providers who currently use LET will be emailed further details at the end of July.

More information including user guidance for ELD will be published on GOV.UK on 11 August 2025.
