Hi, We have an apprentice who is asking to be exempted from the English and maths requirements. Please can I check that the 'Exceptions to the regular English and maths minimum requirements, for people with special educational needs, learning difficulties or disabilities' applied to level 3 and above apprenticeships, not just level 2 apprenticeships?
The learner has a grade 2 english and grade 1 maths. The parent has received an email from the DfE that is incredibly unhelpful for us and says we should be accepting this student on an engineering level 3, even though this is significantly below our entry requirements. The parent is now saying he doesn't have to intake any form of english and maths. Which is what the DfE implied, whereas we have stated that he needs to be engaging in f/s and doing stepping stone quals. We have concerns about his ability to deal with the mathematical aspect of the course. There is no EHCP, but an LD assessment from school and is 16 - 18years. Thanks
