Hi Claire
They are 2 completely different standards with completely different aims, costs, start and end dates and therefore need different ILRs. You may need to consider any KSBs for RPL in the 2nd standard and must ensure the 1st learning period has fully completed before moving to the 2nd. We do have a standard that directly feeds to another, sometimes immediately and sometimes with a years break to embed learning first.
Hi Gill, thank you for your reply.
We have considered RPL, they have all entered in advanced entry and we have ensured the first learning period has fully completed.
When we record them on two separate ILRs, we can the following errors:
- There must not be more than one Learner record with the same Learner Reference Number
- There is more than one record for this ULN. There mustn't be multiple records with the same ULN. Check each record has a different ULN.
The achievement date for the first programme was 22/10/2025 and the start date of the latest programme was 03/11/2025.
I have a ticket with the helpdesk and have also spoken with APTEM but they don't seem to be agreeing with how these should be recorded!
Aptem happily carries multiple learner records / duplicated ULNs, even duplicated enrolments on the same learner record without complaint. Student Records systems I've used previously at least warn about them. So I'm fairly sure you are able to on one learner carry the two x ILR ZPROG + component aim sets. As previous response indicated - they are completely different dates, standards, TNPs etc

Recording progressions in ILR (APTEM)

Can I check how other providers are recording progression apprenticeships in their ILR?
We have learners who complete one apprenticeship standard (e.g. L4) and then immediately progress onto a new standard (e.g. L6). We’re reviewing our approach and I’d really value hearing how others handle it in their ILR setup.
Specifically:
• Do you record the completed apprenticeship aims (ZPROG + component) and the new programme aims within the same ILR learner record for the new academic year?
• Or do you create a separate ILR record for the new programme, with the previous aims sitting in the earlier ILR year only?
• How do you manage this so it passes ESFA validation without causing issues in your internal reports or MI dashboards?
• If you record both programmes in one ILR, how do you manage things like
– aim sequence ordering
– OTJ hours
– achievement dates
– programme-level reporting so that the two programmes still appear distinct operationally?
Any examples of your process or tips would be really appreciated, especially from anyone delivering multi-stage apprenticeship pathways where learners move from one standard to another.
Thanks in advance!
Claire
