Thank you to those providers who have already made a return. If you have not yet made a return, please do so by 17:00 on Monday 16 February.

This collection is for FE Colleges and Sixth Form Colleges, including former sixth form colleges who have converted to academies (Providers in scope have been written to separately).

Providers should return their total FTE figure for teaching staff on permanent or fixed-term contracts employed by them on the third Monday in January. This number will be collected for the 2023 to 2024, 2024 to 2025 and the 2025 to 2026 academic years.

The FTE for the 2023 to 2024 and 2024 to 2025 academic years is pre-populated from your FE workforce data where your organisation has made a valid return. You will be asked to confirm this number and will be able amend this if you think it is not accurate.

The collection is available to any users who have the Submit Learner Data Service by selecting the tile titled “FE Teacher FTE” (this is the same service used to collect FE Workforce and ILR data) and using the FE Workforce role in DfE Sign-in. Staff in the provider who are responsible for making FE Workforce returns should already have this role. If other users require it, this role can be requested via their DfE-sign in account.

Full guidance on how to make the return is detailed on the collection screens. The definitions for FTE and Teacher, used in the return are the same as those for the FE Workforce collection.

By completing the collection, this will allow DfE to monitor and identify changes in teacher numbers closer to real-time, informing policy development and funding decisions at an earlier stage.
