Pregnancy / Maternity Leave - Apprentice and BiL

We have an apprentice who is pregnant and needs to know if she can just come into college (on her day release) to carry on with the theory element of her apprenticeship. I'm assuming she would be on maternity leave from her employment at this point - can she carry on with college day release whilst on maternity leave? If so, would she be attending whilst on a break in learning - or would she not be on a break in learning until she stops all engagement with the apprenticeship?
