Update: Enter learning data improvements

Enter learning data (ELD) makes managing your learning data and creating your individualised learner record (ILR) files much faster and easier than the learner entry tool (LET).

ELD is currently available for both funded apprenticeships (FM36) and non-funded apprenticeships (FM99) as well as care to learn funded (FM82) courses.  Additional funding models will be added to ELD later this year, with study programmes (part of funding model 25) coming next.

Recent enhancements we’ve made to improve your user experience of ELD include:

  • simpler export rules – we now only exclude learners from export where they don’t have any learning aims. No additional rules are applied when generating the export file, so you can be confident that all learners you select on this page will be included in your file
  • recording a break in learning for individual aims in addition to programme aims to allow accurate recording of learners’ individual circumstances
  • total negotiated price (TNP) inheritance - TNP start date will now be inherited from the learner's course start date so you won’t need to amend it
  • software supplier aim ID - a software supplier aim ID will be automatically created for new learning aims
  • copying and pasting dates - if you have a date formatted as 22/11/25 or 22/11/2025 in Excel for example, you can now copy and paste this into ELD and it will automatically be split into the 3 day/month/year fields required for the ILR
  • recording completions – we’ve added clearer instructions on how to record gateway with the addition of completion status 2 and outcome code 8. We’ve also added codes alongside descriptions to help you with this.

You can start using ELD at any time, even if you’ve already been using LET for the current ILR year. If you need to import your latest ILR data, just make sure you have a valid ILR file first. Remember that importing your file will overwrite any current data you have in ELD. If you haven’t tried ELD yet, you simply need to add the ‘Submit Learner Data - Enter Learning Data’ role to your DfE Sign-in account so you can start using the new service.

Sign up for our ELD webinar on Tuesday 24 March at 2pm where you can watch a demo of the service followed by a question and answer session.
