Functional Skill Flexibilities.

Good Afternoon

We have a couple of level 2 apprenticeship learners who are close to completing their practical period but haven't achieved their level 2 functional skills yet.  Latest guidelines  are that there is a temporary suspension of the rule requiring level 2 apprentices to study towards, and attempt, level 2 functional skills assessments until 31 March 2021 which is great.

BUT these two learners have been working towards their level 2 functional skills but we want to put them into Gateway and give them their apprenticeship (assuming they pass).

How would we code the ILR for the level 2 functional skill that they have worked towards but not achieved? Can we close an aim as not achieved and then go on to achieve the apprenticeship?

Many thanks

Christina

In a word, yes. FS aims aren't counted as part of the achievement, pass or fail.

If the learner has completed all the learning but not achieved do you then record as Completion Status 2 - No achievement 3 on ILR ?

If so is the actual end date the exam date ?

Steve Hewitt

Yes, it's 2 & 3.

Would probably go with last teaching date over exam date personally, but don't think there's a big problem with using either?

If it is a standard it should be a withdrawal as without the FS they will have not passed the gateway point and completed is only recorded when the EPA has been completed.

(I was rather assuming it was an L2 App taking but not passing their L2 FS?)

Thank you - just to confirm my query was referring to a L2 Apprentice - only requirement was to have attempted (not passed)
