Apprenticeship standard closed for restarts

Created

An apprentice started with us in 2018 then went on BiL. She is returning this year but the standard has closed (retired). Can we restart her on the same standard/learning aim as she was on BiL?

Please help. Thanks.

The guidance from the Provider support manual is:

If the apprentice was on a learning aim prior to their break that is no longer valid when they return (for example, the certification date has passed), then you cannot class this as a break in learning. This limits the length of time that a learner can have as a break in learning.

Has the certification date passed or just the last date for new starts? If it's just the latter *and they can complete before the certification end date* then the Original Start Date field (and the restart flag) will stop them erroring. If the certification date has gone or they won't complete before it, then they shouldn't be restarted on the same thing.

Hi Martin and Steve,

Thank you for your replies. It is the last date for new starts - 27 July 2019, not sure about the certification date. Where do we look for that please?

A seperate issue on the same stadard: we also get ERRORS for enroling these apprentices on functional skills (after that 27/7/19). I asked the helpdesk but I am still not clear about it as we thought the FS can be enrolled at any point during their apprenticeship journey.

HELPDESK REPLY:

The rule 'LearnStartDate_19' applies to new starts after 1 August 2020. 'the learning start date of the aim must no be after the LastDateStarts in the LARS Standard table'

For this Standard, the LastDateStarts is 27/07/2019 (STD 208). This rule does not relate to the start date of the programme but the learning start date of the component aim. You are therefore not able to return this standard with this learning aim if the learning start date is after the LastStartsDate for the Standard in LARS.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

As this Standard last date for new starts was 27/7/2019 and has an expected duration of 2 years then the standard is still current and should not error as a return from a BIL is a restart.

For the FS the advice in the guidance is that these should be started at the beginning of the programme but so you could still record them as unfunded but do not associate the aims as component aims of the standard or they would also error.
