GCSE Resit Achievements

Created

We have a small number of full time students who had not achieved a grade 4 or above when they left school last summer, so we enrolled onto GCSEs as part of their study programme.

Their school registered them for resits in November, which the school conducted, and the student has now achieved a grade 4 or above - negating the requirement for us to keep them studying the subject as part of their programme.

My impulse is to update their grades on entry and remove the GCSE enrolment from the ILR, as it is no longer necessary.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best approach here? Our academic staff want to complete the GCSE enrolment early and record the new grade so that the achievement is claimed, but considering we didn't host the exam or register the learners for the resit, this doesn't seem appropriate.

Hi Luke.

I was advised to switch the student to meeting the condition of funding, update their grades on entry, exclude the GCSE enrolment from the ILR but keep their planned hours (we add them as EEP) as the intention was always to teach the student and you will have some register evidence to prove that. You should not claim the achievement but at least this way it doesn't negatively impact your achievement rates or potentially move the students to a lower funding band.

Thanks Carol, that makes a lot of sense :)
