Apprentices that can not be furloughed

Created

Hello

I would be very grateful if anyone is able to offer any advice on this matter. We have a few apprentices that started their employment and apprenticeship after the furlough cut-off date and therefore are not eligible to be furloughed. The businesses are closed (hairdressing/hospitality) but both the employer and the apprentice wish to continue with their apprenticeship training with us including functional skills. Is there a way we could continue to deliver the online lessons and keep them enrolled on their apprenticeship? The employers are happy to pay the apprentices for the time they spend in learning (one day a week) but is this enough to keep them enrolled on their apprenticeship or do we have to suspend?

Disruption to employment

Where apprentices are on furlough, they are permitted to continue with their training

remotely where their training provider can continue to deliver this.

Where apprentices are placed on unpaid leave (not on furlough), or where the nature of

their employment changes and no longer supports their apprenticeship, the apprentice,

employer and training provider should agree a break in learning where this disruption will

last four weeks or longer. (See section above on breaks in learning.)
