If your apprentice is due to go through gateway from 1 August 2020:
Level 1 English & maths: the apprentice must take the functional skills assessment as no calculated grades will be issued
Level 2 English & maths:
If this is not a requirement of the Level 2 apprenticeship then the need to take the assessment has been temporarily suspended up to 31 March 2021
If this is a mandatory requirement of the Level 2 apprenticeship, then the apprentice must take the functional skills assessment (where this hasn’t already been achieved) as no calculated grades will be issued
For Level 3 (or above) apprenticeships then the apprentice must take and pass the functional skills assessment (where this hasn’t already been achieved) as no calculated grades will be issued
Hi Martin,
Last week there was an update but can you offer any clarity on whether a Level 3 Apprentice can pass through Gateway without having achieved their Level 2 Functional Skills?
"Apprentices undertaking a level 3 or higher apprenticeship are still required to hold or achieve an approved level 2 functional skills English and maths qualification before they can successfully complete their apprenticeship. If the apprentice would like to attempt the level 2 functional skills English and maths assessment, they should be allowed to do so.
This should not be a barrier to them progressing to EPA, as the (optional) L2 FSQ assessment can be before, alongside or after EPA"

COVID Apprentice Flexibilities - Functional Skills
Created
Hello
The IFA website is showing that all apprenticeship COVID-19 flexibilities have been extended until end of August 2021, but I can't find anything specific about the Functional Skills flexibilities.
It's specifically the Level 2 upskill for Intermediate Apprentices that we are looking for.
Can anyone help please, or direct me to any guidance that confirms the upskill decline is able to continue on until August 2021.
Many thanks
Linnea
