Calculating duration and OTJ for term time apprentices

Created

None

Hi Is there a simple calculation that is used to calculate the extended duration and OTJ hours for an apprentice that works term time in a school for 20 hours per week for 39 weeks per year? I've used the calculation for p/t apprentices but that is based on 52 weeks per year - do I change that to 39 weeks?

Thanks

For part-time working the guidance is per the following:

P41 Where a part-time working pattern is needed, you must agree with the employer and the apprentice the extended apprenticeship duration. You must extend the minimum duration using the following formula:

P41.1 12 x 30/average weekly hours = new minimum duration in months; or

P41.2 52 x 30/average weekly hours = new minimum duration in weeks

As your learner is term time only the average weekly hours will be (39/52) x 20 = 15 hours

as per 41.1 12 x 30/15 = 24 months

The minimum OTJ hours would be 278.4

Hiya

You need to average out the hours over the year to work out how part-time they are, so someone working 20 hours over 39 weeks would be 16.8 over 46.4 (ie 52 minus stat leave), so their *minimum* duration would be 650 days.
