Leaving an Apprenticeship at 17

Good morning you lovely bunch of people and a very happy Thursday. Can someone please point me in the right direction as to what the guidance is for an apprentice completing / leaving their Apprenticeship before their 18th birthday? If they complete in May but are not 18 until July do they have to remain in some form of education until their birthday? Or is it like a school year, where as long as they are 18 before the Sept they are ok to start looking for work? Many thanks in advance

Hopefully when they complete their Apprenticeship they will continue in employment, one of the options for 16-18 is employment and undertake training and that is what they have done by completing their Apprenticeship.

Thank you Martin. So, they don't need to still be undertaking some form of education whilst employed, until they reach 18?

From the Statutory Guidance
10. Entering into a contract of Apprenticeship satisfies the duty to participate and no further monitoring of
that young person’s training or employment is needed. Apprenticeship providers are included in the
requirement to notify a local authority if a young person is no longer participating (‘drops-out’ of
learning).

The objective is not necessarily to keep people at school, but to increase the number of young people
who are participating in some form of training or learning; which could be at school, in college or in the
workplace, such as though an Apprenticeship.
