Progression to L3 Apprenticeship after L2 Apprenticeship

Hi, we have had a rather interesting discussion going on in the office that I hope someone can answer?

At what point can we progress and sign up a learner onto a L3 Apprenticeship after they have completed their L2 Apprenticeship

a)  Can they progress when the Actual Learning End Date has been completed and they go into Gateway?

b)  Do we have to wait until they have taken their EPA as they could be in Gateway for a month or so?

c)  Do we have to wait until we know the result of the EPA as this can take a couple of months after taking the EPA depending on EPAO?

We are wondering how we explain a delay, if any, when the employer wants a seamless transition from one programme to the next for their learners.

Thank you

Jaci

You cannot start another (progression) apprentice until you have completed the current one, this includes completion the EPA.

Thank you Martin, that is exactly what I thought.  However, would you say that even though they took their EPA on X date, we would have to wait until we know the results of the EPA on Y date, as this could take a couple of months from when they took their EPA?

You can only enter completion status 2 when you know the results as they may need to resit the EPA where they fail at the first attempt or you where they fail the employer may not want them to progress.

Martin, can I also just clarify, that we complete the achievement date even if they have failed?

The achievement field is completed when the result (pass or fail) of the EPA is known, but not completed where the apprentice does not complete EPA and withdraws.

Thank you, very misleading that one

It is unfortunate the ESFA choose to use the Achievement date field to record the EPA completion date for Apprenticeships.
