Change Planned End Date after Break in Learning

We have moved to a new ILR system, and our old one used to automatically update a learners planned end date when they returned from a break in learning. Our new system does not automatically update this - can anyone recommend how to update a learners planned end date when they return? Do you extend the planned end date by the amount of days they have been on a break? Sounds daft but I've never had to sit and work it out before!

Yes, we add the total number of days on the break onto the original planned end and if it is an apprentice we update the statement of commitment etc to reflect the changes.

Would usually do it based on how much they had left when they went on a break, rather than the length of time they'd been on a break. But, having said that, it's perfectly acceptable to re-plan based on the individual circumstances (longer or shorter) as long as the two parts total more than 366 days.

Yes if you add the number of days they have been on the break this will retain the original duration of training and funding.

If a learner is returning from a BIL and due to the time out of learning they are going to require longer on programme than you would get by simply adding the duration of the break onto the original expected end date how do you handle this in the ILR.  Can you amend the original end date and update the commitment statement; and remaining funding would simply be spread out over a longer duration?

You don't touch the original records, you just set up the returning records as covering a longer period than the learner had left when they originally went on a break.

As you'll need an amendment to the commitment statement with the new dates on *anyway*, just add the explanation for the extension to the amendment.

And, yes, the remaining money will be stretched out over a longer period.
