New cash employer incentives for Apprenticeships

Created

This statement is a statement from Rishi Sunak on his announcement regarding the new cash incentives, it clearly states that the apprentices must not have employed the apprentice within 6 months prior to the apprenticeship start date.  The latest funding rules however state that employers are eligible if they have employed a new recruit between 1 Aug 2020 and  31 March 2021 (regardless of when the employment started)

We have an employer who wants to claim the incentive, that apprenticeship start date is 22/03/2021, however this learner started employment with this employer was 03/08/2020, so reading funding rules I would say they are entitled to this incentive, however listening to Rishi's briefing I would say they are not - can someone advise please - thanks

E106 You will be eligible to receive an incentive payment for hiring a new apprentice if at the start of the apprenticeship, the apprentice is a new employee. When making a claim through the apprenticeship service, you must declare that they are a new employee and, are eligible in accordance with the funding rules.

Always take the funding rules over what a minister, any minister says!

I have just read this post with interest as we have a number of employers who wish to apply for the incentive for employees that started after 1st Aug 20 but didn't start their apprenticeship straight away.  Do they have to have started their apprenticeship on day one of being a new employee from 01/08/20 or can the apprenticeship start date be delayed anytime up to 31st March 2021 (i.e up to 8 months after they were employed) and still qualify for the cash incentive?
