From the ILR Specifications
The highest examination grade awarded to the learner for a GCSE English Language or Literature qualification.
But the notes do include a precedence for Language.
Full-time learners who have a grade 3 or a grade D in English Literature or a grade 2/ grade E or lower in English Language should record the English Language grade in this field.
Not as far as I am aware. The guidance simply states any GCSE with English in the title at grade C or above is required - I'm not aware of a precedence of one over the other. I have just tried to look at the guidance to see if there's been a recent update but the website doesn't appear to be working for me at the moment.

Thanks both. This is actually my issue as the learner has progressed from a Traineeship to an Apprenticeship and our Maths & English report is showing "does not have English". This report must update if a learner progresses because before the learner started their apprenticeship, it said "has English" instead. That's because a higher grade was recorded on their Traineeship (literature grade) compared to their apprenticeship (language grade) so is why I am asking the question?
Thanks,
Martyn.

Hi
Does the GCSE English Language grade always take precedence over the Literature grade even if Literature is the higher grade. I am under the impression it does but would like confirmation please if anybody knows?
Thanks,
Martyn.
