Covid flexibility & FS Fails

Created

Hi all

We have a learner who took EPA with maths FS unconfirmed due to the covid flexibility, was confirmed as passing EPA but subsequently failed maths and does not wish to retake. How should this be treated on the ILR?

Thanks in advance

Jim

Sorry it looks like you must record it as a fail as Apprentices can still only complete their apprenticeship once they have passed their EPA and achieved their FSQ in English and/or maths as required.

Thanks Martin - much appreciated

Hi Martin

We have the similar situation as above, but our local authority has gotten involved, and wants the learner to be able to complete the apprenticeship with us still but that the Maths would be privately funded through another centre (not us).

If the apprentice passed the Maths through another centre then surely we wouldn't be able to complete the apprenticeship as we didn't complete the Maths element with her which she 100% needs to be a completion/achiever?

Do you have any advice or rules to confirm we couldn't do this? In my mind she should be a withdrawal/no achiever? She did complete the EPA and pass that part though.

Any help would be appreciated thank you.

If the learner can complete the FS the EPAO will then be able to process the completion certification with the ESFA, there is no rule that prohibits this.

Thanks Martin - that is really helpful. Is that even though the learner will have done the Maths through a different provider in the end?

Can we still record the learner as a completion/achiever with us in that case? Thanks again.

You should update the achievement when they have achieved the FS required even if they do so with a different Provider.

Thanks Martin, fingers crossed she passes the Maths FS. What about the three month window for this COVID flexibility? Does it matter that this learner is now outside of three months? She has now entered the fourth month of trying to sit the Maths FS.
