Employer contribution for 19+ apprentice

Created

None

Can I just check if a new employer, taking on a 19+ apprentice, who initially started their programme when they were 16-18, would have to pay the employer contribution of 5%?  Or does the fact they started the apprenticeship programme that they would be continuing with at age 16, negate this?  MTIA

Co-investment is not determined by age but by if the employer is a non-levy payer.

I agree with Martin and also add that the % contribution is based on the original start date. Therefore if they originally started before April 1st 2019 then it would be 10%.

Thanks for the replies - regarding the original start date, the learner was aged 16 at this point, so does the same thinking not apply - that if they started at age 16, then they should continue within this age bracket as far as funding is concerned?  Thanks

Hi Andrea - my comment was based on Degree Apprenticeships, not sure if you work to different rules if it is FE?

Steven: the Apprenticeship Rules are the same for FE and HE as are inspection by Ofsted for Apprenticeships.

Andrea: The funding factors are levy Employer (no co-investment) or non-levy Employer (5% co-investment) or if the co-investment is waved for small employers with less than 50 employees for those 16-18 and 19-24 with an EHCP.

Yes the age at start still applies to those who restart but this does not determine co-investment contribution but only the the 16-18 incentive payments to the Employer and Provider.
