We've had cases where the transfer isn't actioned until a few months down the line because of technical issues and it hasn't caused any permanent problems. It would of course be better if it is all set up first though. In all of these cases we had existing relationships (and direct apprentices) with the large employer who was transfering the funds; I'm not sure if we would have been as happy to accept the SME employees if not.

The funding rules do state that the transfer should be in place before the apprentice starts (para E270 - Employer funding rules).
However I agree with Joanna that the system does not prevent the transfer taking place after the start date. Unlike the non-levy funding reservation which has to be in place prior to the start date in the ILR and AS account.

Does the levy funding transfer have to be agreed and actioned before the start of an apprenticeship? TIA
