An Apprenticeship is a positive progression from learning and for that reason are excluded from retention and success rates if they start an Apprenticeship prior to completing their studies in the academic year.
They can leave school and start an Apprenticeship after the last Friday in June if they will be 16 by the end of the summer holidays.

Just to confirm, this isn't about starting their apprenticeships before completing their studies, it's about when the studies are deemed to be complete for GCSE and A-level students for the purposes of making sure there aren't competing funding streams.
We don't want to affect learners' exams, but we are fielding employer queries about when learners can start after GCSEs/A-levels have been taken.

To (hopefully) clarify further: if learners are still taking exams in July, can they start an apprenticeship as soon as the last exam is complete or do they have to wait longer (until August?)?
In practice, they're not going to start an apprenticeship prior to then, so the 25th June isn't directly applicable, but we need to know when they can begin without affecting their school exams.

What date can learners start an apprenticeship after leaving school following GCSEs / A-levels? In other words, when does the school / college funding stop so the apprenticeship funding can begin?
The only reference to specific dates I've been able to find is last Friday in June, but that's to do with birthdays rather than specifically when the school year is judged to have finished. Last exam? 31st July (end of academic year)? Results day in August?
