Failed EPA, restart record needed

Some advice from you experts would be appreciated. We have a handful of learners who have failed EPA and are returning to us for further training. We have closed their original record down as 2 - completed; 3 - no achievement and opened up a new record coded as a restart. We hope that they will pass 2nd time round but i'm wondering how this will impact achievement rates. Will the original record report as a leaver? If they pass in the end does that somehow convert the original record into a completion? Thanks
