Well that is a fun one... I'm fairly sure I *wouldn't* record the November grade if they continue to attend and withdraw in February onwards if they're booked in for the June series by that point. They're just a withdrawal?
Interesting question about what to do if they stop as soon as they get their Nov grade, but then you're into Early Completer territory and you might have to consider their planned hours...
That was my original thought but we should be able to record the achievement for the November resit.
I sent the helpdesk the below query:
Hi could you help with the following scenario.
A 16-18 student start in Sept 2025 and attends up until the GCSE resit window where they resit GCSE English in November they continuing attending lessons after the examination period. They Achieve a Grade 3 (confirmed in January 2026). They continue attending lessons for the rest of the year and achieve another Grade 3 in English in the May/June GCSE window.
How should this be reflected in the ILR? I have confirmation of the two achievements and attendance through the year.
Should I record the following in the ILR:
Enrolment 1 - 60147003
Sept 2025 to Jan 2026
Completed - 2
Outcome - 1
Grade - 3 (November resit)
Hours reflected to first episode of learning
Enrolment 2 - 60147003
Jan 2026 to June 2026
Completed - 2
Outcome - 1
Grade 3 (Summer 2026 sitting)
Hours reflected second episode of learning
DfE response:
Thank you for your enquiry.
If the learner is expected to achieve a higher grade at their second sitting, you are permitted to record the retake. However, please be aware that the learner may appear on the FRM reports as a duplicate learning aim. To support this, it would be advisable to retain clear evidence explaining why the learner retook the course after already achieving a pass.
You should record the actual completion status and outcome that occurred with you. The November resit should not be recorded unless that resit was also delivered by your organisation.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,

November GCSE Resit Achievement Recording
Created
Hi all,
Just a quick question regarding the recording of GCSE Maths outcomes for 16–18 learners.
A 16–18 learner is enrolled on GCSE Maths for the period September 2025 to June 2026. They sit a resit examination in November 2025 and achieve a Grade 1–3. The learner then continues with their GCSE Maths learning but, for whatever reason, leaves before the summer examination series or does not sit the summer examination.
In this scenario, should I use the Grade 1–3 achieved in November 2025 to close the enrolment as an achievement? If so, should the November examination date be recorded as the Actual End Date, or should the Actual End Date reflect the learner’s last classroom activity/actual date of learning (which could be March/April 2026, for example)?
Any guidance on how this should be recorded would be appreciated.
Thanks,
