L2 FS and GCSE Grade 3 - Process

Hi all,

We have around 10-15 students who are in the scenario of have a Level 2 Functional Skills PASS and also a GCSE Grade 3 in the appropriate subject.

The curriculum teams have told the students due to the L2 FS pass they no longer need to achieve & then our team in MIS are leaving the enrolments on trying to encourage the students to still go due to this combination of grades would hit our COF if we withdrew the learner.

Does anyone have any advice on how they would tackle these students? Since we are at a stalemate with curriculum.

I am contemplating an "opt out" form/process to be signed by student/potentially parent & head of department but then also think if we went down this route suddenly we will have loads of exemptions for other scenarios such as behaviour/non-attendance which I don't want to enable/encourage.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The grade 3 always overturns the FS L2 therefore not enrolling on the GCSE will mean they won’t meet COF. It’s only when they have below a grade 3 with a FS L2 that they will meet COF.

We’ve had this with our curriculum team too- not sure where they are getting their info from.

You could count them towards your 2.5% tolerance.

Are they on a full time programme?

Hi both,

Yes full time students in our scenario.

The MIS team know they will be un-compliant but doesn't help what the curriculum teams are telling the students so they aren't attending

Good old what's best for the learner doesn't always help the compliance team. Could you not adjust the plans to bring them down to a part timer to avoid the COF breach?
