Functional Skills during a Break in Learning

Hi, Can an apprentice continue wit their Functional Skills during a Break in Learning? My initial thought was no as its learning but Functional Skills is not counted towards the OTJ so could this be allowed? The apprentice wants to complete FS so as not to hold up their apprenticeship when they return from the BiL.

Hi Sue,

If the learner is taking a break they're taking it from the complete programme of learning as funding will be stopped across the board so they shouldn't be studying/learning anything during that period.

Actually I was told by a colleague this was potentially okay as the FS funding does not come from the levy pot but we never got anywhere so not sure if the FS funding would be paid. You may want to question why they would want to and if they can continue with FS, why can't they resume on the full Apprenticeship?
