Asylum Seekers - Evidence Required

Created

Hi

I am looking for some advice on the eligibility evidence collected/requested for Asylum Seekers?

Do you ask for ARC card, Residence Permit, BAIL201, something else or a mixture of items?

Many thanks

Asylum Registration Card is the classic because, if I remember correctly, it has the date their application for asylum was lodged which makes it dead easy to see if they've been here six months. However, there will be situations where that was delayed, so if there is other paperwork that shows they were here earlier, that would also be acceptable.

The info here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-registration-card-arc/application-registration-card-arc

suggests everyone gets an ARC very quickly, but I'm sure there are circumstances where this doesn't happen or they are lost etc.

We ask for the arc and the bail. Make sure the arc card is not cut through as that means their application was refused. They must be resident for a minimum of 6 months. If they've been here for more than a year then you'll need a solicitors letter to ensure their claim is still being processed. Also Asyulm Seekers are not eligible for Apprenticeship funding as they are not allowed to work. Hope this helps Kelly

Why would you need the solicitor's letter? Seems excessive when you've seen the ARC? There's *a lot* of asylum claims that take more than a year...

Have you come across anyone who only had the BAIL201 letter and not an ARC yet?  She arrived in country in August and seems to think she doesn't have an ARC.

Is that normal/correct?  Are they eligible for funding without the ARC?

Thanks

Hi Ceri

I'd say a Bail letter was sufficient (I think they have date of arrival on?), but if she only arrived in August she wouldn't have six months to be eligible...
