ESDQ Exemption

Created

None

Hi

I have been advised that students can be exempt from Essential Digital Skills if they hold other IT qualifications at or higher than L1 but I cannot find any evidence to support this.  Is this correct?

I am looking specifically at 19-24 Traineeship delivery which states they must be assessed and delivered the appropriate level - prior learning is not mentioned as it is with English and maths?

Many thanks.

Anneliese

I think this is covered in Par. 234. You must support learners to achieve ESOL qualifications where necessary.

If they have prior qualifications in IT above the ESDQ L1 then they should be exempt, but the wording of the rules infers you should assess them to confirm that they are above L1.

Where the prior qualification is well above L1 and still current then you could assume assessment is not necessary.

Sorry Martin - why does Para 234 cover ESDQ exemption - it just refers to ESOL?

We were advised that ESDQ assessment was mandatory for all traineeship students regardless?  We have found that assumptions can be costly in the past, so I really need to be confident.

Sorry its the next Par.

235. You must support trainees aged 19+ to improve digital skills where they are assessed as below level 1 through the Digital Entitlement, as set out in paragraph 157 to 160. You should also support the development of any digital skills that are part of an occupational standard published by The Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education being linked to in the vocational learning element.

It says where where they are assessed as below level  but that requirement is if you are claiming funding, it does not say assessment is mandatory for those with prior attainment above this.
