HI all

Is it possible to amend a plan of beyond the 6 week qualifying period?

We have a learner who has completed their Math's E3 within the 6 week period but now wants to do their Maths L1.

I can only find the below guidance which doesn't give me anything to suggest that you cant change it after 6 weeks.  

Changes within the first 6 weeks

Providers must work out the planned hours for a student’s study programme when they are first enrolled. If the programme content changes within the first 6 weeks of the programme, the provider must update the planned hours.

When a student transfers from one aim to another within the first 6 weeks, providers must calculate the new planned hours value to include:

a. the timetabled hours for any new aims and for continuing or completed aims

b. the hours delivered for the aim that the student has transferred off

I guess my question is how many hours/weeks did you have against the E3 maths? if it was planned to go all year, then the addition of more/different quals in the same number of hours isn't a problem? Alternatively, does your delivery model look "nested"? (P119):

119. When institutions recruit students to start short study programmes, they must only
record the planned hours for those associated planned short programmes. Institutions
may plan programmes for students with the intention of starting the student on a small or
nested qualification and progressing them onto a larger qualification when they are
successful in the smaller one. In such cases, the planned hours for the programme must
only include the hours for the smaller or nested qualification. When the institution is sure
that the student will progress onto the larger qualification, they can update the planned
hours to include the additional delivery. This advice applies equally whether or not there
is a gap between a student’s initial short study programme and their longer study
programme.

We had the aim start date on 10/08/2021, PED 14/10/2021.The aim was completed on 28/09/2021 at 60 planned hours.

So if the original aim was planned to cover delivery for both then it would be ok?

If he's going to get through his L1 in a fortnight (or in what remains of the 60 hours) then yes?

Yeah I don't think that would be doable to be honest as GLH is 60 for L1 so we wont take the risk. 

I think we need to become better at planning our programmes for the full year is learners are coming out for lower levels.

I mean, here's the thing, if it's right for the learner, do it and claim the hours. "in the first six weeks" realistically only means "before R04 is submitted". As long as it's nicely noted and signed off on updated learning agreements I can't see you having a problem.
