Wouldn't do anything that involved storing it (Study Prog guidance officially says Do Not Photocopy ID, I'd argue storing it on an easily searchable database is worse, mayaswell just tell the learners there will be identity theft...).
Teams/Zoom would be fine if you absolutely *need* to see it, but none of the main funding rules require it (I know some Awarding Orgs do).
Thanks Steve. We currently do a Teams call and the student holds it up to the camera for us. Its a clunky process trying to get hold of the student to do the call and time consuming for our team as a process. Interesting you say that the main funding rules require it ... I will check with my manager regarding this as I am sure she mentioned there is a reason we should see it which relates to funding we claim
Just to clarify.
Certainly for Study Prog and AEB it's not a requirement for those who state they are UK citizens and have been here for three years. Apps is a little more borderline, but still wouldn't do it for funding reasons.
Once we're talking about learners who haven't been here three years, have visas etc, then yes you need to see them.

Viewing Student ID for verification
Edited
Good Afternoon
Please can I ask how you currently view student ID? Face to face is an obvious option, but does anyone get students to upload via their website? If so, how does it get stored and where? How is it secure? Are Teams video calls an option anyone uses, where students hold ID up to the camera?
We are currently trying to rethink the best way to streamline how we already do it, so any ideas would be great.
Thanks in advance.
